An investment of over £1M by two local poultry companies has been given the go-ahead by Mid Ulster District Council’s Planning Committee.

Permission was granted for four free-range poultry sheds, three in Aughnacloy representing an anticipated economic investment of approximately £750,000 and a further one in Dungannon worth up to £450,000.

The developments are part of a wider expansion of Moy Park and Skea Eggs in the area.

Outline planning permission was also given to a proposed 20-bed hotel in Maghera, with the potential to employ up to 8 staff, if the details of the scheme approved under a full application.

Speaking after the Committee’s December meeting, Chair of the Planning Committee, Councillor Martin Kearney, said:

“These latest decisions demonstrate that a tailored, responsive planning service can support economic growth – in these cases, in agri-food and tourism, two sectors which are extremely important to the Mid Ulster region.”
